Comptroller and Auditor General of India has made initiatives for participation of large number of stakeholders before undertaking audits in topics impacting  common man. It issued advertisements in newspapers across the country inviting comments from the public regarding water pollution issues.  These inputs are to be used while planning the Performance Audit on “Pollution of Rivers, Lakes and Groundwater in India” being conducted by the CAG during 2010-11.

The new initiative of the CAG has led to overwhelming response from the public.  So far, around 500 suggestions through e-mails/faxes/letters/post cards have been received focusing attention on various issues on pollution of lakes, rivers and groundwater.  Many of the responses have been accompanied with photographs and write ups.  These would be taken into account by the CAG in identifying critical areas for review.

The CAG is in the process of studying these responses and building up a database which would capture their essence.  These inputs would be used while framing detailed analysis in the Performance Audit and while conducting audit at the state level.  The CAG would also acknowledge the notable contributions made by the people towards this audit initiative
