The 3rd Advance Estimates of production of major crops grown in the country have been released . The latest estimates is based on the feedback received from the states and validated with information available from other sources.

As per the 3rd Advance Estimates, the production of major crops during 2009-10 is as under:

Ø      Foodgrains –  218.19 million tonnes

  • Rice  –  89.31 million tonnes
  • Wheat  –  80.98 million tonnes
  • Jowar  –  6.84 million tonnes
  • Bajra  –   6.46 million tonnes
    • Maize  –  16.32 million tonnes
    • Tur  –  2.56 million tonnes
    • Gram – 7.38 million tonnes
    • Urad  –  1.29 million tonnes
    • Moong  –  0.73 million tonnes

Ø      Oilseeds –  25.41 million tonnes

  • Groundnut –  5.38 million tonnes
  • Castorseed     –  1.0 million tonnes
  • Sesamum     –  0.61 million tonnes
  • Rapeseed & Mustard  –  6.59 million tonnes
  • Sunflower      –  0.91 million tonnes
  • Soyabean        –  10.54 million tonnes

Ø      Other crops

  • Cotton    –  22.83 million tonnes #
  • Jute        –  10.49 million tonnes # #
  • Mesta      –  0.62 million tonnes # #
  • Sugarcane –  274.66 million tonnes
