Including more Women Officers in State Police Forces

Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has issued an Advisory dated 4^th September, 2009 wherein States have been advised to increase the overall representation of women in Police Forces at all levels so that they constitute about 33% of the police.

      As far as Human Trafficking is concerned, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 8.72 crores for establishment of 115 Anti Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) under its comprehensive scheme. Each AHTU has the composition of seven staff members which includes one Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, Two Head Constables and Two Constables. States/UTs have been requested to include women police officers in AHTUs.

                As per inputs provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the total number of cases registered under the total crime of Human Trafficking during the period 2007, 2008 and 2009 were 3991, 3029 and 2848 respectively. State/UT wise details is at Annexure.

            These cases are registered,  investigated and prosecuted as per provisions of  law.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Jitendra Singh,  in written reply to a question in the Rajya  Sabha today.
