Kids who play football have more friends

(IANS) Children who play football are four times more likely to have a large group of friends than those who play tennis or cricket, says a study in Britain.

The study by telecommunications giant BT found that football was the “most sociable” sport among youngsters. Three out of four children who play the sport had at least 17 friends.

Just 13 percent of gymnasts and cricketers had a similar number, while 15 percent tennis players and 16 percent martial arts and netball players had so many friends, the Daily Express reported.

The second most sociable sport was swimming, said the research among 2,300 adults.

The study also said most parents wanted their children to take part in sports and outdoor pursuits rather than watch TV or play computer games.
