The Government has informed Parliament that as per the report of the National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (NCRLM) the educational levels among minority communities based on 2001 Census are as follows:

Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha ,  the Minister for Minority Affairs, Shri Salman Khurshid, also gave Community wise literacy rate, as compared with the  national average, which is as follows:

National Average 64.84

Shri Khurshid informed the House that under the scheme of Saakshar Bharat, targets have been fixed taking into account the total population of minorities and also their share of the non-literate population for raising the level of literacy.
