Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy was Tuesday sworn in as a cabinet minister and is expected to replace party MP Dinesh Trivedi, who had to quit as railway minister following the rail budget in which he proposed to hike passenger fares.
Roy, former minister of state for shipping, was sworn in by President Pratibha Patil at a brief function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee forced Trivedi’s exit from the cabinet following the rail budget last week. Banerjee had written to the prime minister that Trivedi should be replaced by Roy.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and several union ministers.
Banerjee was conspicuous by her absence as was Trivedi, whose resignation was accepted Monday. Most Trinamool MPs were, however, present.
Roy told reporters that safety, security and punctuality would be his priority as railway minister but added that he would speak in detail only in parliament.
Trinamool Sudip Bandyopadhyay said the new railway minister had the prerogative to take a decision on hike in passenger fares.

I, Suparna Sarkar(koley),being helpless to continue the load of educational expense of a private school,(D.A.V PUBLIC SCHOOL,KOLKATA at diamond harbour road, Kolkata-38),and harassed by economical deprivation of fate I request you to help my two girl children to get them admitted to kendriya vidyalaya, close to my house either ballygaunge Kolkata, or command hospital,Kolkata.
Since having no connection with central govt. Service our daughters are being deprived of getting proper guidance of NCERT syllabus.More over that, expensing heavily with their new class admission has become absurd for me right now.
I want to know,if there are any scope to get the children admitted under central quota or any personal effort from you, our daughters who are able to secure good marks and may bring india on lime light in future, can be well groomed with your assistance.
I have tried a lot, now being helpless am sending a request letter to you.I am M.A in English so I guide them at home, encourage them in extra curricular but for their unfortunate fate ,my and their dream may be nipped in bud,to study through the syllabus of CBSE.
Since new session arrived I am giving their detail if any philanthropic person come forward to groom the children’s future.Itreat my children no less than a son,but unfortunately india speaks lot scope for girl child, but common people are are not getting scopes.
