Progress needed on safe motherhood: NGO

A senior official of the White Ribbon Alliance said Wednesday that women in India are still dying due to lack of birth planning among families and communities, and access to facilities.

“Progress has been made on the issue of safe motherhood. But a lot still needs to be done,” said Aparajita Gogoi National Coordinator of the White Ribbon Alliance.

“Advocacy is critical in making the change happen and engaging with the political and social leaders is vital to tackle this problem,” said Gogoi.

White Ribbon Alliance, which is an advocacy alliance of 1,000 organizations in the country, will commemorate the 101st International Women’s Day Thursday.
