In 2006, Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault Nissan, famously contrived the word “frugal engineering”, fascinated mainly by the austere methods adopted by Indian engineers to build products.
Ghosn convinced engineers from Dacia, the Romanian carmaker owned by Renault, to build an affordable car for an average European family which could not afford a sedan. With a little help from gloomy European headwinds, Loganwas a blockbuster in 2004. The stripped down car, a bestseller for Renault has spawned several variants and Duster, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) is one of them.
